THE INDIAN CALL CONTEMPORARY LOCAL CULTURE VERNACULAR CONTEMPORARY ART---------------------- The Indians call contemporary art from local culture vernacular contemporary art. Vernacular contemporary art, such as raw or outsider art art, are part of those singular arts more visible on the world stage of the Venice Biennale at the Hayward Gallery in London. Two exhibitions in Paris marked the international recognition of this art: Magicians of the Earth, in 1989, the Pompidou Centre and most recently Other Masters of India in 2010 at the Quai Branly Museum.------------------------------ The exhibition hosted by Artcurial will focus on the art of Warli tribe and the tribe of the Gond. It will also reflect the art of painters, storytellers and itinerant magicians, or the women of Mithila painters. In 1996, Hervé Perdriolle, the curator of the exhibition discovered the vernacular Indian contemporary art. He studied for three years and, upon his return to France, organizes numerous exhibitions in his Paris gallery, while riding for Artcurial first sales of modern and contemporary Indian art in France in 2007 and 2008.
