Arrested in Madrid nurse accused of performing more than 500 abortions to FARC
Among them were over fifty minors

The Spanish National Police in Madrid have arrested a veteran of the FARC, nicknamed 'The Nurse', accused of making more than 500 abortions to Colombian guerrilla. The victims, among wich there were over fifty minors, were forced to abort up to seven or eight months pregnant.
The women had been raped by members of the organization and could be shot if they refused to undergo this procedure. The investigation began when received from the Colombian authorities a communication on the possible presence in Madrid of a veteran of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), known as 'The nurse', which would have settled in Spain fleeing Colombian justice.
According to the information provided by the National Police of Colombia, this man would have been responsible for the execution of more than 500 forced abortions by guerrillas who had been raped by members of the organization. Among these women fifty girls indigenous community of Choco Zabaleta, who were recruited forcibly be found. Most of the interventions are carried out between 1998 and 2000, following a directive of the General Staff of the FARC in which it was decreed that it could punish the shooting the guerrilla who refused to practice them abortions.
The victims said they were forced to have abortions up to seven or eight months pregnant. Among women who reported the incidents had more than fifty children who were forced to have sex with the guerrillas. The operation has been carried out by agents of Group II of the Organized Crime Section of the Latin American Central Organized Crime Brigade (UDYCO Central) in coordination with the Counter-Terrorism Investigative Area of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol National Police of Colombia.
