It is confirmed that the body found in Astorga is the American Denise Thiem

USPA NEWS - Forensic Science has confirmed through DNA testing that the corpse found half-buried on a farm near Astorga, in the province of Leon, northwestern Spain, on September 11 is the American pilgrim Denise Pikka Thiem.

Police have collated the DNA of the remains found with the family of the woman who disappeared last April 5 while doing the Camino of Santiago. Police searching the hands of the pilgrim for days, since its discovery and subsequent analysis, especially nails, could determine how she was killed and even the identity of the murderer. The body was found without hands, presumably to hinder identification.

As allegedly responsible for the death of Denise Thiem was arrested the owner of the farm in Astorga where the body was found. This man, Miguel Angel Munoz, was indicted himself for the crime, but said that the US pilgrim died after hitting his head after falling to the ground during a struggle.
