The fourth Encierro of the Sanfermines 2022, fast and without injuries
Good weather encourages to run the bulls
USPA NEWS -
The fourth Encierro of the Sanfermines 2022 was the fastest to date. Fast and clean because, despite the massive presence of runners along the route, only five were injured due to blows, falls and bruises, but none due to bull horns. As usual, the weekend increases the number of runners exponentially and this Sunday was no exception. The good weather encouraged many people to run in front of the bulls and then to enjoy Sanfermines in the city's bars and restaurants.
The Encierro was fast, 2.29 minutes. The herd ran compact, except for a bull that was delayed when turning the corner of Mercaderes with Estafeta. It was from that point on that the presence of runners became massive. But the race ended in the bullring without serious injuries. Only five people were treated for bruises caused by bumps and falls, and two of them were taken to hospital.
Spaniards and Americans participate in the running of the bulls, as well as runners from other European countries. The Sanfermines cross borders; They are, without a doubt, the best-known Spanish festivities internationally. And the writer Ernest Hemingway has a lot to do with this. In love with Pamplona and the Sanfermines, he expressed his impressions of it in his novel 'Fiesta' and that aroused the curiosity of many Americans who, year after year, travel to Pamplona to live the experience of running in front of the bulls.
Other thinks
Apart from the Encierro, the news this Sunday in Pamplona had a different look. Last Thursday, during the procession of the patron saint of Navarra, when the image of San Fermín takes to the streets to be acclaimed by Pamplona residents and visitors, a group of radicals attacked the municipal authorities and the police officers who protected them. This Sunday it was learned that the Police have arrested three people for these incidents, which overshadowed a traditional act of the Pamplona festivities.
In these incidents, insults, threats and attacks on the Municipal Corporation were heard, and three police officers were injured. The author of the attacks on police officers is one of the detainees, and sources of the investigation assure that his work has not finished and more arrests are not ruled out in the coming hours.
