USPA NEWS -
COP25´s failure demonstrates once more the inability of nations, public institutions and political leaders to act together to contribute actively to the common good. The nations´ inaction calls for a new way to measure how our leaders and institutions are assessed in terms of societal impact and contribution to the greater good. Before anything else, it calls for action, beyond speeches and press announcements. We welcome Europe´ announcement that it wants to take the leadership (how it could do so without a united front itself is another debate), and its commitment to carbon neutrality in 2050 ““ but that is in 31 years“¦ is it still possible to hope when endless interstate discussions lead to poor decisions?

#ACT NOW---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“As we cannot wait any longer for public institutions to take the lead, we commit to #ActNow“, says Andre Loesekrug-Pietri, Director of the Joint European Disruptive Iniative (JEDI). “We are calling all foundations, corporations, entrepreneurs, to join the thousands of JEDIs in 23 European countries, and support our pan-European technology challenges solving major environmental problems“. JEDI, the European initiative for disruptive innovation, is increasingly supported by forward-looking foundations, corporations, European states and regions, that want to shortcut the traditional bureaucratic lengths and demonstrate their commitment to impact. JEDI is launching Technology GrandChallenges that push frontiers of innovation and achieve breakthroughs on key environment issues with massive impact on carbon emission & energy consumption. Exemples include
“¢ Reduction x5 of the consumption of datacenters
“¢ Finding an alternative to Jetfuel with a 2x higher energy density
“¢ Reducing 3x the cost of producing hydrogen
“¢ Developping an energy storage with 3x the energy density of Lithium-Ion
